Perry Nursery is a godsend... Michelle R.
Filling the Need
It is a documented fact that without early intervention, at-risk youth enter kindergarten approximately two years behind their peers.
Quality kindergarten readiness programs, like the one at Perry Nursery School, ensure that our at-risk children have equal opportunities to begin their academic careers.
Perry follows the researched-based High/Scope curriculum.  The goal of the High/Scope preschool model is to enable young children to achieve greater school success and adult socioeconomic success and social responsibility by giving them opportunities to initiate and engage in learning activities that contribute to their cognitive, affective, and physical development.
Child care is expensive.  The average price of full-time childcare (for one child) in Washtenaw County is over $10,000 per year.  Many single parents only earn a minimum wage which is currently $7.50 per hour.  If these parents work 40 hours per week, they are only making $15,392 (gross) per year in earned wages.
This makes it difficult for a parent to feed her family, pay for housing and utilities, and afford transportation.
Perry Nusery School gives our families reduced tuition on a sliding scale based on household income levels.  This makes it affordable to for our parents to pay for full-time care, allowing them to remain employed and able to pay for food and housing.
